It does break the maxim of not losing a tempo by moving the same piece twice in an opening. But Fischer felt there is no other way for White to try for an advantage. But both my programs pick d4. Fascinatingly, Stockfish 7 says White already has a decisive advantage of 3.25, but (the weaker) Deep Shredder says it's even. (RJ)} c6 10.Bg5 {From here it's a fascinating challenge for both players, with all the issues typical of gambit play, but exaggerated. White has given up a piece in return for an exposed Black king and a large lead in development. He must keep his dynamic advantage and make something of it fairly quickly, or lose. Black must survive the onslaught, seek to exchange pieces, deaden the position and get his king to safety. Both my engines say Bg5 this dissipates much of White's advantage, saying de should be played. It's odd that White's best move is, apparently, not a developing move.
