1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 Nc6 {More usual is 3 ... d5 or even g5. It is a long time since I have played the King's Gambit. Ernie Greenhalgh used to always play 3 ... Be7 followed by Ba4+, but that was back in the 1970's (KP)} 4.Bc4 d6 5.O-O Bg4 6.d4 Bxf3 {This move surprised me as I had expected black to maintain the pin and develop his king side pieces or castle quickly on the queen side (KP)} 7.Rxf3 g5 8.c3 a6 9.Nd2? {This is a poor move and surrenders the initiative. 9 Qb3 adds pressure on f7 and maintains the pressure (KP)} Qd7 10.b4 Na7 {This move surprised me since I had expected Bg7 or even Nh6. It invites my response (KP)} 11.a4 h5 {I recall Rob saying after he made this move 'I can't let you have all the fun'. However the black pawn attack is still a few moves away from presenting any real danger whilst white's threats in the centre and queenside are more imminent (KP)} 12.b5 a5 13.Qb3 {I wanted to play e5 and then e6 but it is countered by d5 slowing down the white attack and giving black a playable game (KP)} Nc8 14.e5 Qe7? {Not sure about this move maybe 14 ... d6xe5 is better since this allows pressure from another white piece (KP)} 15.Ba3 {Black's lack of development of the king side pieces and vulnerability of the king is starting to show. (KP)} Nb6 16.exd6 cxd6 17.Bxd6 Nxc4? {An unexpected 5th move by the knight, but 18 ... Qxd6 is better even though it allows Bxf7+ (KP)} 18.Nxc4 Qe6 19.Rff1 {With a threat of Re1 (KP)} Ne7 {I think 19 ... Nf6 is better (KP)} 20.Rfe1 Qh6? {20 ... Qd7 is probably better (KP)} 21.b6 {With the threat of Qb5+ (KP)} f6 22.Bxe7 Bxe7 23.Nd6+ Kd8 24.Nf7+ {#r}
